Which of These Hot PC Performance Tips Are You Ignoring?

Studies have shown that over 90% of the world´s PCs do not perform at optimal levels. This means that most people do not maximize their PC performance.

There is really no reason why this should be the case when there are so many tools out there designed to help you maximize the performance of your PC. Some of them you can download free on the ´Net, such as antivirus tools or spyware scans.

Another solution is to make it a habit to perform maintenance tasks. Now, this isn´t as complicated as it sounds. Here are five hot pc maintenance tips that can give you robust and speedy PC performance.

Hot Tip #1: Update your software.
If you notice that your PC slows down when you use an application, see if you need to upgrade the software driver. Your PC performance may also suffer from the usual glitches that come with the programs you use. Check for upgrades. Software developers usually try to rid their products of the glitches found in a previous version. If you use an antivirus tool, regularly check for updates that equip you to handle the latest viruses that seek to damage PC performance.

Hot Tip #2: Check your hard disk.
Windows is packed with system maintenance tools that help keep your PC performance at optimal levels. Click on the Start menu, go to Programs, then Accessories, until you reach the different system tools. Scan Disk to look for errors, Disk Defrag to arrange the data on your hard drive more efficiently, etc. This is something you should do REGULARLY. If you think you´ll forget to do it, use the Maintenance Wizard so your system can automatically perform regular maintenance.

Hot tip #3: Check your RAM.
RAM is your PC´s memory and it can slow you down when it starts to fail. Visit the Microsoft technical support page and use the Windows Memory Diagnostic you can download from there. This will test your PC memory. If the test finds a problem, you can try to deal with it by simply pulling out your RAM and plugging it back in. If it won´t work, you will have to replace your RAM.

Hot tip #4: Take your PC temperature.
Have you tried everything and still find that your once high performance PC is now, well S-L-O-W? It may be that your PC is overheating. Open up your CPU case and check for dust, especially on the CPU fan/s. Your fan/s may not be cooling your unit sufficiently and prolonged exposure to heat can damage your PC components. Experts recommend that you use rounded cables for your drives instead of the usual ribbons to reduce heat. You should also make sure that your unit has proper ventilation. It shouldn´t be up against the wall, preventing the heat from escaping. Neither should the air holes be covered.

Hot tip #5: Perform periodic registry cleaning.
Registry cleaning is the PC equivalent of spring-cleaning. You need it to keep your sanity! Useless files left over from programs you install and uninstall, and all sorts of regular tasks you perform, weigh down your Windows registry.

The fastest, most worry-free way to deal with this is to run a registry cleaner like RegCure. What´s great is it does all the cleaning you need to maximize PC performance and you don´t have to worry that it will delete something important!
