Javascript Errors – How To Spot Them… And Deal With Them For Good!

Netscape developed JavaScript so that Web designers could put interactive functions and other interesting features in their websites. A scripting language, JavaScript is not the same as Java, which is a programming language. A scripting language is easier to code than the more structured programming language. JavaScript errors are usually code problems.

It is when JavaScript interacts with a website´s HTML code that the elements of the website become dynamic. Some of the most popular examples of website functions or effects created using JavaScript are:
  • images that change when you move your mouse or pointer over it;

  • popup graphics, text, or windows; and

  • detection of a client or user browser.

The way Java Script errors appear will depend on the settings and version of the client´s browser. What will usually happen is a dialog box will alert the client asking him if he wants to “Debug”.

Dialog boxes for JavaScript errors may have the line number plus a message, like “Object (or Character) Expected.” Depending on the browser, the missing character may also be shown. Microsoft IE and Netscape Navigator will handle JavaScript errors differently, using different messages. The efficiency or smoothness in handling Java Script errors also varies.

An open language, JavaScript is implemented by several software entities and can be used without a license. Even offline products use JavaScript. Adobe Reader and Acrobat have interpreters for JavaScript in their PDF files

What Causes a Javascript Error?

Following are some of the most common causes of JavaScript errors.
  • Bad client input

  • Typographical errors in the code.

  • Corrupted data.

Java Script errors are also associated with security issues. It is a fact that many unscrupulous individuals steal a client´s personal or confidential data using JavaScript.

Called phishing (a play on the word “fishing”by techies) and pharming (“farming”), these methods use JavaScript to fish or harvest personal info from unsuspecting clients.

What makes these attacks more vicious is that JavaScript can be written so seamlessly that you won´t even see any visible sign of it when you use your browser. Your browsing can be fast, smooth, and error–free, and yet malicious JavaScript can be doing its work to steal your data.

If you aren´t a programmer, it is unlikely that you will even notice that your Internet browser has a fully functioning JavaScript interpreter that is both powerful and risky.

How to Deal With Javascript Errors and Security Issues

One of the most practical ways to deal with JavaScript risks is to run a high performance registry cleaner like RegCure. The great thing about running a registry cleaner is you can do a programmer´s work and clean up your system without even knowing what harmful code looks like!

You can safely empty your Recycle Bin, Temp, and Cache folders. But trying to manually clean the other parts of your system, such as your Windows registry, without knowing what you´re doing can harm or crash your PC.

You can also run spyware or a virus scanner. But even these tools leave useless files and data fragments behind, especially if they were generated by JavaScript or malicious codes embedded in a free program download you later uninstalled.
