Make sure that your keyboard is wiped clean regularly since most likely, a lot of crumbs, hairs and dust are lodged in the spaces between the keys. More so if you are in the habit of eating at your workstation. Usually, you can simply turn over the keyboard to remove the dirt residing in it. However, there may be cases when the problem becomes severe and may require removal of the keys which you may do yourself provided that you know how to do it. If unsure, have it done in a computer shop which has the proper tools for the task.
- Mouse. There are instances when the mouse pointer fails to respond promptly to your command. If such is the case, then you have a dirty mouse that requires cleaning. You can simply detach the ring at the base of the mouse and remove the trackball. Scrape the dirt lodged in the plastic rollers inside since this is often the cause of erratic mouse performance.
- Case. The computer´s case is one of the first parts that encounter dust. You can make use of a soap and water solution to remove the settled dust, wiping with a lint-free cloth to avoid scratching its finish. Just make sure that the solution is not allowed to seep into the internal parts of the computer!
- Monitor. Your computer´s monitor also attracts a large amount of dust making it look older that it really is. You can clean it using a glass cleaner. Wipe the monitor with the cleaner using a lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the surface and do so gently.
- Fans. The computer´s fan is a haven for dust and is one of the parts you should give serious attention. Use a soft artist´s brush to remove the accumulated dust in the different fans of your computer.
- Motherboard. The computer´s motherboard is also an important part that needs to be cleaned with care. Do not use cloth or brush to clean the mainboard as it generates static electricity which can destroy the delicate circuits in the board. Instead, use a can of compressed air to gently blast the accumulated dust. Remove the chipsets attached in its slots to further remove the remaining dirt.
