How to Choose the Right PC Hardware to Improve PC Performance

Have you ever wondered why your next–door neighbor´s computer runs like a hare while yours like a tortoise? You may turn green with envy but hey, there STILL is something you can do to make your tortoise run faster. The secret lies in knowing how to choose the right PC hardware to improve PC performance according to your particular need. If you follow these steps, you will soon find yourself wining the race.

How to Select the Right PC Hardware

While it may seem a daunting task at first glance, choosing the right PC hardware for your particular needs can be easy. You just have to determine exactly what your purpose is for using the computer and from there the task will be smooth sailing. Let us examine the different parts that are responsible for better PC performance and see which fits your requirements.

CPU. Commonly know as the “processor”, the CPU or the Central Processing Unit is considered as the brain of the computer. It is responsible for running different commands and functions, from simple to complex tasks. There are different kinds of processors that are designed for a particular requirement and we will analyze which of them fits you.
  1. Low-End Processors.Processors of this type are what you may call as budget-friendly. These are CPUs that are low-priced that have had their share of the limelight yesterday. Still, they can provide great performance if you´ll just be using it for simple tasks like word processing and browsing the Internet. Classified under this category are the Intel Celeron (2.4 GHz and below), Intel Pentium 4 (2.6 GHz and below), AMD Sempron and AMD Athlon XP processors.

  2. Middle-Class Processors. These are processors that boast better PC performance and are the most popular choice among PC owners. While they may not run like the high-end variety, the mid-class processors provide an impressive performance for more demanding functions. Included in this category are Intel Pentium 4 (2.8 Gigahertz and up) and the AMD Athlon XP processors.

  3. High-End Processors. If you intend to use your PC for more taxing tasks, you will need to buy high-end processors. Graphic editing and 3D gaming shine best if your PC is outfitted with processors of this type. However, you must be willing to shell out large sums since they come with a high-end price as well.
Motherboard. Otherwise known as the logic board or main board, this part serves as your computer´s primary circuit board. The motherboard houses other parts of the PC like the ROM, various ports, CPU and other important slots. It is responsible for making all the attached parts work as one in your computer.

When choosing a motherboard, it is very important to identify the type of processor you use for your computer. There are varieties of main boards and some of them may not be able to support your CPU. It may even cause hardware conflicts that result to poor PC performance. As an illustration, if you have an AMD Athlon XP processor, make sure that the logic board you´ll be buying is one that can support that particular brand and model.

Computer Fans. You might be enjoying top-speed PC performance but it won´t be for long if you do not have an adequate cooling system. The computer fan is the part particularly tasked with providing just that. It is therefore very important to choose one that can maintain internal temperature at acceptable levels.

Choose a fan that can be accommodated by the computer case you have. Larger fans can provide better temperature control significantly increasing your computer´s life and performance. If you use your PC for longer stretches of time, it will be wise to have a larger computer case to house larger fans for a more efficient cooling system.
