EXE Errors 101

An “EXE” is simply an executable file. When you open an EXE file (i.e., you double-click on it), you run a program. Although EXEs now exist in Microsoft Windows, OS/2, and MS-DOS operating systems, the file format originated in Version 2.0 of MS-DOS. EXE is more powerful than its predecessor COM, but it also generates very common EXE errors.

The old executable COM was limited to less than 64 KiB (1 kibibyte is 1,024 bytes), a size so small that you hardly hear of it today. It was not only small it didn´t have relocation info so you could only have a single segment of code.

EXE, on the other hand, contains relocation info that enables you to run multiple code segments that can be loaded to any place on your hard drive. And it can support much larger computer programs than ever before.

The downside is the problems it has the potential to generate are larger as well. Some of the most common errors you encounter are probably EXE errors.

EXE errors are so pervasive simply because the file format is one of the most popular around. EXE is such a compact, convenient way to install programs into any PC, which can be downloaded from any website. (Many are free and hard to resist!) Perhaps you´ve done it yourself.

It´s safe to say that life without EXE files is pretty hard to imagine nowadays.

Common EXE Errors

Have you ever seen “IExplorer.exe has generated an error” pop up on your screen? What about “Cannot find the file Win32sys.exe or one of its components”? Ever had a cli exe error?

If so, then you have some experience with EXE errors and have probably tried to look for help on the Internet. Have you discovered that the solutions to IE (Internet Explorer) EXE errors proposed by experts are many?

The tricky part about fixing IE EXE errors is they may not have really originated in your browser (IE). You may have clicked on something that wrote software to your browser, making whatever that was you clicked on an add–on – and virtual part of Internet Explorer.

If the errors occur in this add-on program, you will get the same IE EXE errors as you would if there were something wrong with your Internet Explorer browser.

The bad news is you may have no control over these add-ons since they can even be integrated into IE without your clicking on anything, as in the case of spyware. Some free program downloads or websites you visit install spyware into your PC that may eventually cause annoying EXE errors that slow you down and even crash you.

Other causes of EXE errors are computer viruses. The error message “Cannot find the file Win32sys.exe,” for example, could be caused by a virus pretending to be your PC´s Win32sys.exe.

The Microsoft help page proposes solutions to such problems. But if you aren´t really inclined to follow a step–by–step process every time you see EXE errors pop up or are afraid that your PC may crash before you can do anything about it, then you can try using a registry cleaner, like RegCure.

Folks, for as long as we use our PCs actively, we are bound to experience EXE error messages every now and then. So don´t get frustrated... just try using a registry cleaner!

Good luck!
